NOTE: This year's 2019-20 Meeting has not been set yet, however, all information below is good for this season.

--------------------------------------------------
Congratulations on Joining the 2019-20 PBA Family!
You’re now part of an organization that has proudly helped to foster fitness, health, scholarship, and basketball skills with over 1000 Poolesville youth over the last 20 years. We are the official feeder program to all of the very successful Poolesville High School Basketball teams.
This email is being sent to you to remind you we have a mandatory parent meeting at the Poolesville Baptist Church (time and date TBD) It should last an hour or so. At least one parent or guardian per player are required to attend.
At this meeting, we’ll be going over PBA rules for the season (including a new league-wide player/parent Code of Conduct), explaining how the practices and game schedules work, gathering information forms, and collecting fees.

NOTE: Forms will be emailed to you. Please print out, fill-in, and return forms with your payment to your coaches. If you are paying cash please bring it in an envelope with your player's name on it. Here's what we are looking for to complete your player's registratiion:
-
A check made out to the PBA for league fees. All fees are $240.00 per player unless playing both Rising Star and JV (in which case fees are $440.00). Please contact me right away if you cannot pay your fees . We are a non-profit and the fees go directly towards paying for our gym time (30-plus practices) and overall team league fees (16-18 regular season games plus pre-season tournament amd playoffs for the MML teams). Make sure your player name is written in the memo line. If you’re paying cash, seal it in an envelope with your players name on the outside.
-
Please fill out and sign all forms attached to your email. Please print clearly and attach everything together. Don’t email them to me---please bring them to your coaches.
-
Include a copy of your player’s birth certificate. It doesn’t matter if you’ve participated in the PBA previously----we’ll need a fresh copy.
Background information about the PBA and the leagues we participate in:
The PBA is an advanced-play youth basketball association. We participate at the 7th and 8th Grade Levels (JV and Varsity) in the Winter Mid-Maryland Jr. Athletic League, a fine organization that encompasses school districts across Mid Maryland. The Mid-Maryland League (in business for over 40 years) is very competitive and most of its members serve as the official “feeder programs” for their local high schools. For the 2019-20 season we are also fielding a team in the 6th Grade Boys Rising Star League.
While the PBA expects its teams to be competitive with the teams it faces in leagues and tournaments, we also try to balance the goal of winning games by emphasizing teamwork, player participation, fundamental skill development and sportsmanship.
All PBA teams practice in or around the Poolesville area, with each team practicing at least twice a week starting in November. Practice schedules will be posted on the this web page within a couple of days and practices start next week.
Very Important: PBA players are expected to attend all practices and games with the exception of illness or family emergencies. Games for the Mid-Maryland League (pre-season tournament, 16 game season plus playoffs for girls, 18 game season plus playoffs for boys) begin at the end of November.
If your son or daughter is selected to play on one of the PBA teams, your family becomes a member of our organization. Being a member requires you to do several things, the first of which will be voting on our association’s slate of directors. All five board spots are up for election for the 2019-20 PBA Board of Directors. These positions are PBA President, Secretary/Concessions, and Treasurer. We will be soliciting written and emailed nominations for board positions at the membership meeting.
Current Position Holders:
PBA President: Jim Brown
PBA Vice-President Boys: John Weber
PBA Vice President Girls: Cathy Carnahan
PBA Treasurer: Jim Brown
PBA Secretary/Concessions: Open
Please contact current acting PBA President Jim Brown at 301-221-1988 or jimbrown.sales@gmail.com if you are interested in obtaining a job description for any of the above mentioned positions. The membership will then vote on the nominated board positions and elect the 2019-2020 PBA Board of Directors at that meeting.
The PBA is an entirely volunteer-run organization, so we will be drafting you during the season to participate in various volunteer capacities. JV and Varsity family members will be issued a schedule to detail the various duties needed to be performed on home-game days (working the snack bar, cleaning up, etc.). We not only need your help, but being a member of our organization requires you to help. You will not have to volunteer during your child’s game---we want you to root your child’s team on to victory.
The PBA and the Mid-Maryland League considers academics to be an important part of our experience, therefore we will be asking you to sign a grade release form in order to determine your player’s eligibility (you may have already done this). The PBA will not be viewing actual grades (school guidance department will supply them), but any participating player must have at least a 2.0 grade point average and no failing grades.

Most Important Information
The Mid-Maryland League that we participate in are very competitive leagues. No player is guaranteed playing time. All playing time will be at the coach’s discretion. Any player looking for guaranteed playing time should consider signing up for Recreation League ball.
All players, parents, coaches and administrators that are members of the PBA must sign a “Participation Agreement” for both the PBA and the leagues we participate in that outline exactly the kind of behavior expected from our membership at all times. The PBA is 100% committed to setting the standard for membership conduct within the Mid-Maryland League. Any member that violates the spirit or letter of the “Participation Agreement” faces immediate expulsion from the Association.
