2019-20 PBA Game Summaries
2-27-20-------PBA JV Boys Advance in OT! Varsity Girls Late Charge Falls Just Short!
​
In a raucous, thrilling contest featuring multiple lead changes, big swings in momentum, and ultimately overtime and a last second shot attempt to win, the Poolesville JV Boys bested FSK 35-32 in their MML "A" Tournament play-in game to advance to weekend action. Poolesville trailed early but then Falcon guard Christian Moore (nine points total) had the quarter of his life with three consecutive long three pointers to pull the "home" team back into the game. FSK was not to be denied, however, as Mitchell Smith (nine points) and Adam Lafaivre (eight points) pushed FSK back in front at the end of three quarters. The Falcons bounced back behind Noah Naing's eight second half points (10 points total), including a key bucket in overtime, to bring home the overtime win. Will Casella (five points) hit a big three in the extra period to provide the final margin. Poolesville "bigs" Evan Schneider and Will Jauch also finished with four points each. Vinnie Volpe absolutely set the pace of the game for the Falcons and his late overtime steal helped to seal the game. The PBA JV Boys now advance to play #2 seed Mount Airy at 6:30 PM on Sunday night at PHS.

In an exciting and hard fought game, Poolesville’s Varsity Girls made a late charge against Walkersville but fell just short in their season-ending 39-29 loss. The Lady Lions won the tip off and immediately Poolesville went into a man defense against the Lion's offense, it took a moment before either team was able to score, but Skylar Davis was fouled and sent to the line where she made both of her free throws. Poolesville's Ella Moore hit her first three-pointer and it was quickly answered by Trinity Lindblade. Poolesville was held to three points for the first quarter by Walkersville sound and aggressive defense. In the second quarter the Lions sent Poolesville to the line where they gathered 4 of their 10 points from the charity stripe. Ella Moore from Poolesville and Morgen Smith showed impeccable leadership on the court for their team leading their team in the most steals and rebounds in the second quarter with sound defense against the Lions. The first half ended with Walkersville up by four 17-13.

Second half both teams come out with great momentum and an obvious hunger for the win. The Falcon’s Ella Moore hit a long three pointer, was fouled, and nailed the “and one” to tie the game up in front of a crazed crowd. Walkersville gradually ran the lead back up late in the third quarter and held on for the win. Poolesville's leading scorers were Moore with 11 points, Morgen Smith with 6 points, and Breanna Salovich, Cortney Hurbanek & Katie Hopkin with 4 points each. According to Coach Kelsey Carnahan, “We couldn’t have played much harder than that. Our girls gave it all they had and I’m so proud of them. This loss doesn’t take away from the great season we had.”

The Linganore Jayvee Girls faced Poolesville in the AA Semifinals. The game started with a palpable intensity as both teams struggled to shake off their nerves in the beginning minutes of the game. The first period brought only three points for the Lancers and six for Poolesville thanks to two three-pointers by Kate Dacanay. The second period picked up as the Lancers scored an additional ten points to Poolesville's five bringing the score to 13-11, including an impressive buzzer beater by Christina Contardi going into halftime. In the third period, Poolesville struggled to bring the ball down the court making it difficult for them to keep the game close. Linganore pulled further ahead, making the score 25-16 at the end of three. The fourth quarter was all Linganore as the ball never found the basket for the Falcons and the game ended 42-16. For Poolesville, Kate Dacanay led her team in points with 12, all from three-point shots. Kacey Raines and Alex Sosna were behind her with two points each for Poolesville. Linganore will now face Walkersville for the championship game.

In their Varsity Boys match-up, Poolesville never got it going and fell to FSK by a final score of 51-26. More to come.
2-22-20-------PBA Varsity Girls Beat Linganore 40-38, Advance to MML "AA" Tournament Final Four , JV Girls Next!
In the MML Girls AA Tournament quarterfinals, Poolesville's Varsity Girls (#5 seed) hit five three-pointers in the second quarter to open up a five-point halftime lead then withstood a furious Linganore (#4) charge to hold on to win a nailbiter by the final score of 40-38. The win advances the Falcons to the AA Final Four. Poolesville's guard duo of Ella Moore (21 points) and Breanna Salovich (nine points) was at it again fueling the Falcons second quarter run by scoring all 19 points between them in the quarter. Poolesville's Morgen Smith chipped in six points and nine rebounds in the win. Katie Hopkin also scored four points with Molly White, Gabby Montemurro, and Cortney Hurbanek all making strong contributions. Linganore had eight Lancers hit the scorebook with Megan Hummel scoring five of her 11 points in the final quarter to keep her team close. Grace Snyder scored eight points and was a force all game long. Taylor Moran, Trysten Colburn, and Madeleine Porter hit four points each, and Gracie Wilson, Jessica Stansbury and Gracie Knight all hit key buckets in the loss.
2-16/17-20------PBA Varsity Boys Make Long Trip to Win Over Clear Spring! JV, Varsity Girls Sweep Windsor Knolls and Ballenger Creek. JV Girls Clinch Antietam Title with 8-0 Record!
The PBA Varsity Boys traveled to furthest reaches of the MML to play Clear Spring on Sunday. The trip was more than worth it as the Falcons made a two-point lead hold up for most of the second half and hung on for a well-deserved 36-34 road win. Jackson Hartke (15 points) hit his last five free throw attempts to seal the win for Poolesville. Seth Lemarr shrugged off double-teams like gnats all night and finished with nine points and nine rebounds. Luke Grossnickle (six points) also nailed clutch free throws in the decisive final quarter. Carson Smith hit a three-pointer, Preston Krueger had a bucket, and Tyler Schefter also scored in the win.
In a thrilla from da 'Villa on Monday, Brunswick's Varsity Boys broke open a tight contest by hitting some key shots and riding the strong play of Grant Brown and Dylan Harsh (12 points each) to beat Poolesville 51-40. Brady Cournoyer also hit for ten points in the win. Poolesville had a short bench and it showed, but Jackson Hartke, with 13 points, and Seth Lemarr and Luke Pearre (10 points) each, stepped up and kept it close to the end. Luke Grossnickle hit two critical three's to tie the game twice and Tyler Shefter also scored in the loss.
In Clear Spring on Sunday, the PBA JV Boys came oh-so-close but eventually fell by a score of 32-28. Tied at 12 at the half, Clear Spring scored the first four points in the second half and then held the fighting Falcons at arm's length the rest of the way. Jordan Smith had his best PBA game with 10 points and six rebounds. William Jauch hit for seven points and played well in the paint, Noah Naing finished with five points, Evan Schneider had four, and Johnny Smith also had a bucket.
Brunswick's JV Boys broke open a close game with a 19-4 second quarter run to chug past Poolesville 47-17 on Monday. Nine Railroaders hit the scorebook led by Nathan Borawski with 14 points, Carson Eye with seven, Colin Pearre with six, and Jacob Genus and Dominic Carusone with five points each. Evan Schneider paced Poolesville with five points. Vinnie Volpe and Connor Kohne had four points each, Jordan Smith finished with three and Will Loftus also scored for the Falcons.
Poolesville's JV Girls got off to a slow start but turned it around with 14 second quarter points then held serve the rest of the way en route to a 32-15 win over Windsor Knolls. The win helped clinch a perfect 8-0 division record for the JV Girls and an Antietam Division championship entering league tournament play next weekend. Alina Bowen paced the Falcons with three three-pointers and 13 points. Alex Sosna hit for 10 points in the win, Kate Dacanay continued her fine play with five points and Kacey Raines hit for four. The Wolverines picked up eight points from Dyanara Valenzuela-Ruiz, three from Kimberly Kelsie, and a bucket each from Kyrah Hackey and Jordyn Shipley.
The Windsor Knolls Varsity Girls came roaring back with 17 fourth quarter points at Poolesville, but the Falcons, behind eight straight points from Ella Moore, including six clutch free throws, held off the Wolverines by a final score of 35-30. Moore led all scorers and finished with 19 points. Fellow guard Breanna Salovich hit for five points (to go along with five steals), Gabby Montemurro had four points, and Brooklyn Hornyak, Courtney Hurbanek, Molly White, and Katie Hopkin also scored in the Poolesville win. Morgen Smith finished with three steals and seven rebounds for Poolesville. Windsor Knolls pushed the comeback thanks to 14 points from Madilyn Allen (eight in the fourth period), five points from Ella O'Connor, three points each from Alisa Ortiz and Cailin Spelman, and also scores from Jasmyn Wilson, Sabriya Tobing, and Grace Booth.
At Ballenger Creek on Sunday, the PBA Varsity Girls exploded for 27 points in the final period to blow past the Lady Bulldogs by a final score of 54-39. The guard duo of Ella Moore (21 points) and Breanna Salovich (13 points), along with strong play in the paint from Katie Hopkin (nine points) keyed the away win. Gabby Montemurro pitched in three points and Milla Brizhik, Gabby Orns, Courtney Hurbanek, and Morgen Smith all came up with big buckets.
In the double-header opener, the PBA JV Girls finished up a season sweep of Ballenger Creek by picking up 13 points from "three machine" Alina Bowen, eight from Kacey Raines, and five from Kate Dacanay in their 31-15 win over the Lady Bulldogs. Rylen Smith hit for three points and the Alex Sosna had two in the win.
2/09-10/20-----JV Girls Keep Rolling, Varsity Boys Lose Close One at Williamsport

Balanced scoring carried the day for the Poolesville JV Girls as Kacey Raines (11 points), Alina Bowen (eight points) and Alex Sosna and Kate Dacanay (six points each) pushed the Falcons to an early lead (18-6 at the half) they'd never relinquish in their 33-20 win over Linganore. Sutton Wetcher also had a bucket for Poolesville. Solana Smith paced the Lady Lancers with five points, Andrea DeChosa and Kayleigh Lake hit for four points each, Camryn Rawlett scored three points and Genevieve Vlha and Christina Contardi (two points each) also scored.
The Varsity match-up went the other way. In a defensive battle, Linganore shut out Poolesville in the final quarter on their way to a 27-20 win over the home team. Lady Lancer Grace Snyder did most of the damage to the Falcons---she finished with nine points with Madeleine Porter pitching in six and Taylor Moran scoring four. Jessica Stansbury (three points), Trysten Colburn, Gracie Wilson, and Megan Hummel also scored for Linganore. Poolesville's Ella Moore led all scorers with ten points. Molly White hit for six points for the Falcons. Also in the scorebook for Poolesville were Gabby Montemurro, Katie Hopkin, and Breanna Salovich.

The Williamsport offense started out hot shooting led by Cole Kriner who hit three 3 pointers in first half on his way to 13 first half points to pace the Wildcats to a 46-38 win over the Poolesville Varsity Boys. The Wildcats held Poolesville to 2 first half field goals with most of their scoring coming from the charity stripe. The Cats enjoyed a 27-12 halftime lead. Poolesville would not go away as half of their points were from the free throw line, they made 19-23 from free throw line to finish with 38 points for the game. They were paced by Luke Pearre with 12 points as he got hot in the fourth quarter making a couple of three pointers. Devin Galentine finished with 6 while Jackson Hartke and Seth LeMarr scored 5 each. Preston Krueger and Andrew Brill chipped in 4 each and Tyler Shefter finished with 2. Williamsport was led by Cole Kriner with 14 points and Coentae Wilmore with 10 points. also contributing for the Cats was Eli Fleming with 8, Corry Nelson with 6, Willie Frazier and David Keller 4 each.

Williamsport offense came out smoking right away behind the hot shooting of Ceontae Wilmore who was a matchup nightmare for Poolsesville. Wilmore led all first half scorers with 14 as the Wildcats enjoyed a halftime lead of 32-16 and ended up winning 50-26. The Poolesville JV Boys were led by Jordon Smith with 11 followed by Vinnie Volpe with 7. Noah Naing chipped in 4 and Johnny Smith and William Jauch added 2 each.

Windsor Knolls hosted the Poolesville Girls JV at Urbana High School in a match-up of the two top division teams. Poolesville jumped out to an early lead with their outside shooting dropping three 3-pointers early in the first period while Windsor Knolls shots wouldn't fall and the period closed with Poolesville up 11-0. While they held tough on defense, the Windsor Knolls offense continued to be unable to put points on the board in the second period and the teams went into halftime with Windsor Knolls still scoreless and trailing 17-0. The teams matched up better in the third with Windsor Knolls finally able to start scoring while the defensive effort kept Poolesville scoring in check and the period ended at 21-7. Windsor Knolls outscored Poolesville again in the fourth period but they were unable to dig themselves out of the hole from the first half and the game ended with a final score of 23-13. High Scorers for Windsor Knolls were Kyrah Hackey (4 points) and Lucy Glanville, Dyanara Valenzuela-Ruz, Caitlyn Crotty and Kim Kelsie contributing 2 points each. High Scorers for Poolesville were Kacey Raines (9 points) and Katie Dacanay (6 points).

The Varsity Windsor Knolls Wolverines hosted the Poolesville Falcons. The Wolverines came out hot with 1st quarter 3 pointers by Madilyn Allen and Jasmyn Wilson building a 12-5 lead. The Wolverines extended their lead to 20-9 at half behind strong ball handling by Cailin Spelman who had several assists to open teammates. The Falcons kept the game close the rest of the way behind 8 point efforts by Breanna Salovich and Katie Hopkin while Gabby Montemorro had all of her 6 points in the 4th. When the Falcons went on a run, the Wolverines were able to answer and held on for a 37-28 victory.

2/02/20-----PBA Varsity Boys Take Down Middletown in Thriller, Varsity Girls Do Same Against Catoctin! JV and Varsity Girls Split at Urbana.

In a see-saw battle with lead changes throughout, Poolesville's Varsity Boys outscored Middletown 21-14 in the second half to claim an exciting 40-38 win over the Knights on Sunday. In a battle of big men, the Falcon's burly center Seth Lemarr overcame a tough start at the free throw line to finish with a game high 17 points and 11 rebounds. Jackson Hartke (seven points) and Luke Pearre (five points) hit their fourth quarter free throws to put the game on ice for Poolesville. Devin Galentine and Tyler Shefter each pitched in four points in the Falcon win with Carson Smith also scoring three points. Middletown's Brett Lucas had a fine game for the Knights---he passed, rebounded and scored his way to a team-high 17 points. Matthew Phillips hit for ten points, Preston Yost scored four, Joey Nicholson had three, and Matthew Murray and Braden Beard also got in the books for Middletown in the loss.
In a game closer than it looked, Middletown's JV Boys opened an early lead and gradually pushed that lead out to a 32-20 win over Poolesville. Grant Sloan (11 points) and Ryan McLister (eight points) did most of the damage for the Knights with Caleb McHugh and Vince Grossman pitching in six points apiece Dylan Leadbetter also scored for Middletown. Poolesville was paced by Jordan Smith, Vinnie Volpe, and Johnny Smith with four points each. Noah Naing, Connor Kohne, and Evan Schneider, and William Jauch also scored for the Falcons.
7th grader Taylor Smith did all she could (19 points, including 13 in the second half) to will the Catoctin Varsity Girls to a win on Sunday, but in the end Poolesville's depth plus key fourth quarter performances by Ella Moore (seven of her 12 points in the 4th) and a surging Morgen Smith (all eight of her points in the second half) carried the day in the Falcon's 35-34 Varsity win. Poolesville's Gabby Montemurro continued her recent fine play and finished with ten points. Katie Hopkin (three points) and Cortney Hurbanek also scored in the win. In addition to Smith's heroics, Grace Williams had a fine game for the Cougars---she finished with nine points. Catoctin also picked up four points from Kylie Perhach and a bucket from Samantha Orndorff.
In the JV contest, Poolesville spread the scoring around and got just enough from everyone to eek out a 25-19 win over Catoctin. Kacey Raines (seven points), Sutton Wetcher (six points) and Kate Dacanay (five points) helped get the job done for the Falcons with Laynie Sofelkanik (four points) and Alina Bowen (three pointer) also contributing important buckets. Catoctin was paced by Kelsey Troxell (five points) and four points each from Lauren Kelly, Brooke Williams, and Abagayle Shives. Gianna Lowry also scored in the loss.

In Saturday action, the PBA JV Girls gave Urbana a good run before falling by a final score of 28-23. Alina Bowen (nine points, including two 3-pointer) and Kacey Raines (seven points) did most of the heavy lifting for Poolesville with Kate Dacanay (four points), Laynie Sofelkanik (two) and Sutton Wetcher also pitching in.
In Varsity action on Saturday, the PBA girls ran past Urbana by a final score of 49-25. If your name was in the scorebook you scored in this game, with Gabby Montemurro kicking in eight second half points to lead the way. Ella Moore had her usual fine game, spread the wealth around with some fine passing, and finished with 11, Breanna Salovich and Katie Hopkin had five points each, Cortney Hurbanek, Morgen Smith, Molly White, and Brooklyn Hornyak finished with four points each, and Madi Manning and Gabby Orns each had a bucket.
1/27/20-----Vikings Conquer, Lions Roar as PBA Boys/Girls Suffer First Sweep of the Season!

In a well-played defensive battle, the Viking JV Boys edged a tough JV squad by a final score of 28-21. Leading by two at the end of three quarters, the Vikings Jayden Havell hit for four of his six points and Ben Almeide nailed a crucial three-pointer to carry the Vikings to the win. Jakari Means and James McEvoy also scored six points each for the winners. Will Casella had a nice game for the Falcons---he finished with seven points. Noah Naing continued his mid-season surge and finished with six points. Jordan Smith, Vinnie Volpe, Evan Schneider, and William Jauch also scored for Poolesville.

The Vikings Varsity Boys rolled out to an early lead at Poolesville then held the homestanding Falcons at arm's length the rest of the way in their 60-40 win on Sunday. Jamel Addison Jr. did the damage early and often for the Vikes. He finished with 16 points in just three quarters including going six-for eight from the free throw line. CJ kubah-Taylor hit for ten points and Alex Piraino contributed in eight in the win. in total, ten players scored for the Vikings with Emonte Hill Jr. also pitching in seven points. Poolesville picked up an outstanding effort from Preston Krueger. Krueger finished with a career-high 15 points (including two three pointers), Lamin Bojang also finished strong with eight points, Jackson Hartke had six, and Jack Loftus hit for five in the loss.
In a hotly contested JV Girls game between the Chesapeake and Antietam division leaders, it took five periods of play, but Walkersville's Aayana Teasley had the last laugh as she scored the final five points of her 27-point effort in overtime to lead the Lions to a 38-34 win over Poolesville. The Falcon's Kacey Raines did all she could do to keep her team in it---she finished with 18 points, including 10 in the second half. Walkersville also picked up seven points from Addison Boram, three from Hailey Putnam, and a score from Clara Simms. Poolesville balanced the scorebook a little better with six from Alina Bowen, five from Alex Sosna, four from Kate Dacanay, and a fourth quarter free throw from Laynie Sofelkanik.
In the Varsity Girls contest. Walkersville overcame an early 10-2 deficit then broke open a tight contest in the second half to beat Poolesville 34-29. Trinity Lindblande (16 points) and Lamaria Estridge (11 points) shook off slow starts to carry the Lions to the win. Kailey Nicholas (three points) and Skylar Davis (two) also scored for Walkersville. Poolesville's Ella Moore continued her fine season with 14 points. Katie Hopkin hit for four points, Breanna Salovich had three, and Madi Manning, Gabby Montemurro, and Cortney Hurbanek also scored for Poolesville.
1/20/20-----Falcon Girls Corral Mustangs, Groundhog Day Comes Early for JV and Varsity Boys!

Poolesville's JV Girls blew open a close game with a 24-6 late game burst to beat Monocacy by a final score of 34-12. Kacey Raines hit for 10 of her 11 points and Alina Bowen hit for eight points in the second half to lead the Falcons to the win. Alex Sosna (six points, four assists) and Katie Dacanay also had nice games for Poolesville. Monocacy was led by Esmerita Alfaro. Alfaro hit two threes to keep the Mustangs close early on. Leah Brown, Elena Feuer, Kaelin Embry and Kierstyn Senuta also scored for Mustangs.
In the Varsity Girls match-up, the homestanding Falcons opened up small leads against the Mustangs only to see Monocacy cut things down to size and make a game of it. Only in the end, behind the smooth guard play of Ella Moore (15 points) and Breanna Salovich (two points), did Poolesville pull away for the 37-24 win. Poolesville's "bigs" came to play as well with Cortney Hurbanek, Morgen Smith, Molly White and Katie Hopkin pitching in four points each and the two Gabby's (Montemurro and Orns) also scoring key buckets. Monocacy fought hard all game, and despite the short bench, hung with the Falcons all game behind six points each from Dakotah Bright-Brubaker and Ariana Opazo plus big baskets from Tiana Sampson (three points) and Elly Bauer and Allahna Foreman (two points each).

The town of Poolesville rolled out the red carpet for Williamsport's Ceontae Wilmore and Wilmore treated himself to double-digit rebounds and points in two straight games. In the JV match-up Wilmore finished with 20 points and teammate Cole Sprankle finished with 15 as Williamsport beat the homestanding Falcons by a final score of 49-28. Pitching in on the win was Jalen Coleman with seven points, Henry Lewis with three, and Jamir Wigfall and Rider Ellis with two points each. For Poolesville, Noah Naing continued his resurgent season with eight points followed by William Jauch with six, Jordan Smith and Vinnie Volpe with five each and also scores from Russell Kimball, Connor Kohne, and Jacob Smith.
The Varsity Game felt like Groundhog Day came early as Ceontae Wilmore again hit for double figures and finished with 10 points and at least as many rebounds in Williamsport's 46-26 win. This time his help came from Corry Nelson who finished with 11 points. Bernard Tinsley pitched in with eight points, William Frazier had six, Cole Kriner finished with five, Eli Fleming had three points and Williamsport also picked up scores from Cole Sprankle (just two this game) and David Keller. Poolesville was paced by Seth Lemarr with eight points, Luke Pearre and Jackson Hartke with five each, Tyler Shefter with four, three from Preston Krueger, and also a score from Devin Galentine.
1/19/20---Girls Send Ballenger Creek Home Without Paddle, Boys Fight Back, Lose to Catoctin!

In a well-played and exciting Girls Varsity match-up in Poolesville, Ballenger Creek placed three double-digit scorers in the book but it wasn't enough to overcome 26 points by Poolesville's superlative guard, Ella Moore, as she finished with 26 points in the Falcon's 53-42 win over the Lady Bulldogs. Moore hit her free throws in the decisive fourth quarter as did fellow guard Breanna Salovich (six points, all in the final period) to secure the win. Poolesville also picked up nice games from Morgen Smith (season-high eight points), Cortney Hurbanek (six), Molly White (four) and Katie Hopkin with a bucket. BC's big three were Laney Barton and Kayden Glotfelty with 12 points each and Nina Connors with 11.
In the JV contest, Poolesville scored early and often in their 37-7 win over a scrappy but undermanned Lady Bulldogs squad. Kacey Raines led all scorers with 10 points in the win followed by seven each from Kate Dacanay and Alex Sosna, six points from Alina Bowen, and four points from Rylen Smith. Laynie Sofelkanik and Sutton Wetcher also scored for the Falcons. Ballenger Creek got a nice effort from their up-and-coming 6th graders, including Anna Barton, who finished with four points. Fellow underclassmen Aleesa Sanchez-Macewan, Janae Morrison, and Alana Moxley also scored for the the Lady Bulldogs.

In a see-saw battle that saw the Poolesville's Varsity Boys twice close the gap to just two points in the final minutes, Catoctin hit their free throws, made crucial stops when they had to, and held on for an exciting 37-33 win over the Falcons. Catoctin sharpshooter Ben Krauss hit for 10 points in the win followed by Robert Ruch and Cody Faulkner with six points each and Devin Majors with five. Poolesville's Luke Pearre continued his streak of fine play with 16 points including several tough drives to keep the Falcon's close. Seth Lemarr finished with eight points for the Falcons. Jackson Hartke hit for four points, Devin Galentine finished with three and Lamin Bojang had a bucket.
In the JV game, Catoctin broke open a tight contest and held Poolesville at arm's length the rest of the way en route to a 43-26 win over the Falcons. Logan Williams did most of the damage for the Cougars----he finished with 16 points including seven in the final quarter. Colin Toms scored eight points for the visitors amd Austin Morris also finished with six fourth quarter points. 1/5/20----JV Girls Check Knights, Boys teams Fall to Monocacy Powerhouse

Poolesville's JV Girls jumped out to an early lead then held serve the rest of the way in their 31-15 win over Middletown. The Poolesville "bigs" did most of the early damage with Alex Sosna hitting for 13 points while also handing out three assists and Kacey Raines scoring five points. Alina Bowen had seven points for the Falcons with Alaira Walker, Sutton Wetcher, and Kate Dacanay also scoring. The Lady Knights were led by Talia Jenkins with six points, Clare DeGrange with four, Jess Doreen with three and Alexis Parker with a bucket. "I liked the way we passed, especially the way Alex got everyone involved early," said Coach John Weber.
In the Varsity match-up, Middletown's always-tough Bella Wilson (17 points, including seven in the decisive 4th quarter) proved to be too much for Poolesville's Varsity Girls as her scoring and tough defense helped hand the Lady Knights a 31-25 win over the Falcons. Middletown got critical buckets----and critical stops----at the right time with seven points from Kaylee Franklin, three from Kate Stevenson, and two each from Josie Boniface and Madison Phillips providing the difference. Poolesville's smooth backcourt duo of Ella Moore (nine points) and Breanna Salovich (10 points) didn't have enough answers for the home team. Madi Manning, Milla Brizhik, Courtney Hurbanek, and Katie Hopkin also scored in the loss. "Too many missed free throws and too many missed lay-ups kept Middletown in the game" said Coach Kelsey Carnahan. "We'll need to play better when we face them later in the season."

Monocacy's Varsity Boys passed,.shot, and ran through Poolesville's Varsity Boys in their annual mismatch by a final score of 71-18. Montana Williams led the Mustangs with 19 followed by Tolu Oluboyo and David Dorsey with 12 each and Jacob Hnath with 10. The Falcons were paced by Seth Lemarr and Jackson Hartke with six points each and Tyler Shefter with four.
The Monocacy JV Boys started off the double-header in similar fashion with a 64-17 drubbing of the JV Falcons. 10 Mustangs made the box score this time with Andrew Spencer leading the way with 15, Dayvon Dorsey, Bryce Williams and Klein McMens contributing eight points each and David Bohorquez and Kayden Leggett each pitching in seven. Jordan Smith (seven points) and Noah Naing (six points) did what they could for the Falcons, who also picked up buckets from Will Rook and Evan Schneider.

12/22/19------PBA Boys, Girls Sweep Clear Spring and Boonsboro Back to Washington County!
A third quarter surge carried Poolesville's Varsity Boys over Clear Spring on Sunday as the Falcons picked up their first win of the season by a final score of 48-43. The Falcon's Seth Lemarr (18 points, 14 in the second half) out-dueled Clear Spring's Dillon Albowicz (16 points) to help claim the win. Poolesville's Luke Grossnickle (11 points) hit three big three-pointers to keep close early on. Luke Pearre hit for all nine of his points in the second half fior the homestanding Falcons as did Jackson Hartke with his four. Lamin Bojang, Devin Galentine, and Preston Krueger rounded out the Poolesville scoring with two points each. In addition to Albowicz's efforts, Clear Spring picked up nice games from Kannon Shives and Chase Cassera with eigh points each followed by Samuel Stonebraker with seven.
The Poolesville JV Boys captured their first victory of the season against Clear Spring by a score of 40-33. Poolesville came out on fire in the first quarter scoring 18 points and holding Clear Spring to four for a 14-point lead after one quarter. Evan Schneider paced the Falcons with eight points in the quarter.Clear Spring got their legs under them in the second quarter and outscored Poolesville 10-4 to cut the halftime deficit to 22-14. Tyler Schildtknecht led the second quarter comeback for Clear Spring with six points. Both teams played a very competitive second half with Clear Spring closing the deficit to three points at one point midway through the fourth quarter. The Falcons settled down and stretched the lead back to six with a clutch three-pointer by Jordan Smith. Vinny Volpe handled the ball effectively and played a very consistent game.Jeremiah Hull kept the game close for Clear Spring with strong defense and seven second half points. Clear Spring was led by Hull with 11 points followed by Schildtknecht with 10, and Camden Whittington with 6. Noah Poe, Colton Grossnickle and Mason Oates finished with two points each. The Falcons put three players in double figures led by Volpe with 13 followed by Schneider and Smith with 10 points each. Will Casella chipped in five points and William Jauch added a bucket in the win.
Poolesville's JV Girls started fast and opened up a commanding 19-1 lead after three quarters against the Boonsboro JV Girls on Sunday. The Warriors played up to their team name with a furious fourth quarter that cut the Falcon lead down to eight. In the end, Poolesville, with eight second half points by Kacey Raines (10 points total), ended up winning by a final score of 25-13. Poolesville also picked six points, nine rebounds, and four snazzy assists from Alex Sosna. Alina Bowen chipped in three points and Kate Dacanay, Jillian Maher, and Laynie Sofelkanik pitched in two points each. For Boonsboro, Abby Smith handled the ball well and hit for four points during the comeback, Danica Bennett scored three points, and Breean Gay, Annabel Fletcher, and Macie Horton each scored a bucket.
Poolesville's Varsity Girls broke open a back-and-forth contest in the fourth quarter as the guard tandem of Ella Moore and Breanna Salovich scored all nine of the decisive points to help the Falcons outlast Boonsboro by a final score of 33-24. The Warriors got off to a fast start as Haylee Hartman (eight points, all in the first half) and Gracie Garrett (eight points total) pushed the Warriors to a one-point halftime lead. In the second half Poolesville's Moore (game high 20 points) took over, and with help from Salovich, Katie Hopkin (five points), and Morgan Smith and Cortney Hurbanek (two points each), Poolesville claimed the win. Boonsboro also picked up scoring from Emily McKevitt, Hope Lowe, Maya Fravel, Erika Thompson, and McKenzie Kidwell.
